The mum took to Mumsnet to ask other they parents if they thought a dress she was eyeing up would be suitable for the school run – and people had some strong opinions…
A woman has caused a huge debate after asking for advice on whether a dress she was debating buying would be suitable for the school run.
The 43-year-old was tempted by the black Warehouse dress while doing some online shopping, but she wasn’t sure if it was too short.
She explained that she planned to wear the dress with either trainers or flat Grecian sandals.
However her question caused a huge debate on the parenting website Mumsnet, with many arguing it wasn’t appropriate while others didn’t see the problem.
Sharing the snap, she wrote: “I’m braver than I used to be at eg 33.
“I give far fewer f***s (just the occasional one)”, she was more concerned over whether it was age appropriate, writing: “But at 43: is this just too short?!”
On the Warehouse website, the dress was described as: “Simple, modern, classy.
“This boxy mini dress with puff sleeves and pintuck detail is sweet without being at all twee.
“An easy summer win.”
But Mumsnet users couldn’t come to a conclusive decision as to whether it was suitable or not.
A few people encouraged her to “go for it”, with one saying: “I’m not even clicking on the link because no it is definitely not too short!!
“Your age should not influence your choices.”
Another suggested: “Go for it! You could wear with leggings if you want to cover up, tights and boots in winter, even skinny jeans under. It looks great.”
A third also commented: “I don’t know why your age is relevant to the question.
“I like the dress, definitely worth a punt, see how you feel in it. You can always send it back.
“You’re not going to know if it’s comfortable or feels too short etc until you try it.”
But a few people disagreed.
One brutally advised: “Unless they are going to wear it over leggings that dress is too short for anyone.”
And another said: “Tbh – I wouldn’t wear that out of the house.
“I wear shorts that are shorter than that – but a dress that short, no”.
But, in the end, she ended up buying it, and thanked everyone for their opinions.
